The 2005 model year introduced the fifth-generation Mustang on the new D2C platform, with styling inspired by the first-generation model. From 2005 to 2010, the base model featured a 4.0-liter V6 engine with 210 hp, while the Mustang GT had a 4.6-liter V8 engine producing 300 hp. In 2007, the Shelby GT500 joined the lineup with a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 500 hp. The 2010 model featured a redesigned exterior and improved the GT’s engine to 315 hp. In 2011, the Mustang saw updated engines, a new six-speed transmission, and a 3.7-liter V6. The 2012 Boss 302 debuted, followed by the 2013 Shelby GT500 with a 5.8-liter supercharged V8 delivering 662 hp, making it the first Mustang to exceed 600 hp.
